Creating Experiences

Connecting Communities

Through touring to an ever-expanding network of locations around regional, remote and rural Australia, we ensure that audiences can experience diverse & innovative professional live performance. With the launch of the CST Screening Room (link) we now bring these some outstanding artists into the homes and devices of audiences everywhere

We bring together people from across the country to connect with original Australian stories and theatrical works in the venues and places they hold dear. We also produce regular forums and industry initiatives (link to artist page) that help bring together theatre makers and creatives, contributing to a strong, diverse and vibrant theatre culture.

Theatre at Home

Come To Where I Am – Australia

Produced in partnership with the UK’s Paines Plough #CTWIA has commissioned 16 playwrights from around Australia to write short works about the places they live, which will be produced as short films for our new digital platform, with potential for live performances with regional partners in future.

What They’re Saying

Wonderful to experience such a well-crafted – and truly epic – play; thank you again for making it work for us to have it come to Central Australia.

Loved the singing and great music incorporated into the show. We definitely need more comedy in the country to relieve the stresses of rural life!

A very high quality show with exceptional production values. I have great trust in the quality of Critical Stages work.

Jill Standfield, QUT Gardens TheatreTHERESE RAQUIN 2017

What an amazing play. The response was excellent, even a small standing ovation for the play!
Very positive feedback. Such a slick production and a masterclass in acting. Thank you for letting us be a part of your tour. As usual a quality, professional production from Critical Stages.

The show was wonderful – the design, the soundscape, the subtle lighting changes, the direction and transitions and the actor’s work were all just perfectly balance to create a fun and yet moving night in the theatre. I really loved it. Thank you.

It was great to see a period drama with such high production values on our stage: amazing set, fabulous costumes and talented actors. It’s always a pleasure to have a Critical Stages production at the Whitehorse Centre.

“Loved it and was moved to tears. On exiting the theatre there was a buzz with our patrons, you could hear them discuss the play in a positive way. One looked me and stated ‘BRILIANT!!!’

"Cartwright and Hawkins’ whirlwind, muscular performances, and terrific direction by Chris Bendall, on a welcome return to Perth, made for a genuinely engaging entertainment that was warmly, and justly, applauded by a capacity audience."

We presented Jurassica in Griffith last night. As I sat in the audience it was great to hear another language spoken on stage and to hear people laughing along at the Italian language punchlines. I spoke to people after the show and they were universally impressed with it- and rather taken aback by their own quite profound reactions to it. This has re-inspired my belief in the power of theatre and the value of bringing more challenging works to regional audiences. Thank you.

Raina Savage, Griffin Regional TheatreJurassica

"It was incredibly physical… Visually spectacular… Constant colour and movement… It’s a relationship condensed into one hour. A really joyous experience – like Valentine’s Day on crack!”
